SMI/Helios Co-Sponsors the Global Marine Renewable Energy Conference
April 14-15, 2010
SMI Inc./Helios Strategies was a proud co-sponsor of the 3rd Annual Global Marine Renewable Energy Conference, held April 14-15, 2010, in Seattle, Washington. Over 300 representatives from across the emerging marine hydrokinetic industry attended the largest U.S. based conference of its kind, including technology developers and investors, environmental analysts and scientists, and federal, state, and local government policy makers and regulators.
The conference featured numerous specialized sessions led by experts, leaders, and innovators to educate, discuss, problem solve, and plan for strategic industry-wide action. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), the Minerals Management Service (MMS), the Foundation for Ocean Renewables (FOR) and the Ocean Renewable Energy Coalition (OREC) also co-sponsored the event.
Washington State Governor and keynote speaker, Christine Gregoire, focused her speech on the role of clean energy technology in securing our nation's economic, environmental and national security needs. Governor Gregoire also highlighted Washington State's role in the U.S.'s emerging clean energy future.
P.J. Dougherty of SMI was a featured luncheon speaker and presented on challenges and opportunities in the emerging water power industry. His remarks focused on the changing national discussion on the role of clean energy and how best to position an organization for upcoming federal water programs funding opportunities.
"In my view, GMREC III was a complete success for the emerging marine hydrokinetic industry and its stakeholders," said P.J. "The combination of high quality content, speakers, attendees, and the stunning beauty of Seattle made this one of the best energy conferences I have ever participated in; a job well done to the OREC team and all of the sponsors and participants."
Prior to the start of the conference, a professional and industry development day was held to facilitate input and generate dialogue to ready participants for the subsequent panel discussions and presentations taking place at GMREC III.
Over 30 presentations from the conference are available online.
