Jennifer Sollars, Former DoE Official, Joins SMI's Helios Strategies Division

Jennifer Sollars has joined Strategic Marketing Innovations' (SMI) Helios Strategies division as a Senior Advisor. Ms. Sollars combines more than a decade of experience in state and federal policy making with a focus on renewable energy, including tenure with the U.S. Department of Energy. She most recently served as Manager, Federal Government Relations for PPL Corporation.

"Jennifer is uniquely suited to aid our clients, particularly under the Helios umbrella, where our client base is intent on working with the Department of Energy and related agencies on Federal-level renewable energy policy and harnessing congressionally directed funding," says Ted Lynch, President of SMI. "Her depth of knowledge from working at DoE as well as in the private sector will be valuable in helping our clients achieve success in Washington; we're thrilled to welcome her to our team."

While at the U.S. Department of Energy, Ms. Sollars worked in the office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy where she advised two Assistant Secretaries on all matters before Congress relating to alternative energy and energy efficiency including: creation of a Federal Renewable Energy Standard, development of alternative energy tax incentives, and passage and implementation of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 including the existing federal loan guarantee program. Ms. Sollars also worked with appropriators and staff through four appropriations cycles regarding the office's $1.2 billion annual appropriation. Prior to her work at DOE, Sollars worked for the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, handling transportation and water issues.

At PPL, Ms. Sollars has focused her efforts on developing and messaging corporate positions relating to Renewable Energy Standards, transmission policy, energy markets, and financial regulatory reform to Congress and numerous Federal Agencies. Additionally, she was an integral member of an internal utility smart grid team that was responsible for securing $19 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds.

Ms. Sollars received her BA in Political Science from New England College.
