PJ Dougherty Receives DOE Wind Award

Former Department of Energy official and SMI Vice President, P.J. Dougherty, was presented the "Outstanding Leadership" award by the DOE Wind Powering America initiative at the 9th Annual All-States Summit. Over 200 representatives of state wind working groups, state energy officials, DOE and the national labs attended the award ceremony on May 26, 2010 in Dallas, Texas.

"It gives me great pleasure to recognize my former colleague P.J. Dougherty for his leadership of the Wind Powering America deployment effort and for his role in shaping the future of wind energy in the U.S.," said Larry Flowers, Technical Director of Wind Powering America. "Under his leadership, we went from a handful of partners in one state to a national clean energy deployment effort involving hundreds of people across 35 states."

In his remarks upon receiving the award, P.J. recognized his teammates across the U.S. that made the program possible. "When we started this program, there were 2000 megawatts of wind capacity installed in the U.S. Today there are close to 40,000 megawatts and our program should be proud of enabling the growth of a sustainable U.S. wind industry. On behalf of all our partners in Wind Powering America, as well as the DOE and national lab wind family, I gratefully accept this award."

Wind Powering America is the premier national wind deployment activity by the Department of Energy. Mr. Dougherty was National Director of the initiative from 1999 until he joined SMI’s Helios Strategies division in July 2008.
